If you don’t believe in yourself, how will anyone else? Self-confidence is essential to living a truly happy life. Without self confidence, you can find yourself questioning everything you do and never being satisfied with your decisions. Building self-confidence is a multi-step process of acceptance, positivity, and preparedness. As soon as you believe in yourself, everything else seems possible.
Self confidence is key to changing your life for the better. To begin the meandering journey, you should eschew negativity and focus on positive aspects of your life. First, you need to evaluate your close relationships. You must distance yourself from individuals in your friends or family who are ruinous to you. After ensuring that the people around you are going to be a good support structure, you can begin improving yourself. You should start off being positive (even if you don’t feel positive - “fake it until you make it”). If you act enthusiastic about activities you participate in, other people - including yourself - will be more happy. Supporting yourself in your projects instead on focusing on the issues will change your outlook.
Low self-confidence commonly roots from a negative image someone has of oneself. So, it is important you change your image. Begin with the basics of body language. You should maintain proper posture, polite smiling, and eye contact when speaking to someone. Not only will other people view you as confident, but eventually you will too. Next, you can move onto dressing well and doing your hair. No one expects you go all out everyday, but by simply putting your hair in a braid and changing out sweats for jeans can do wonders for your confidence. When you buy a new outfit, you should make sure you feel comfortable wearing it. It’s never a good idea to buy something you’re uncomfortable in because it’ll lower your confidence. Changing your image will make you feel and appear more confident.
Ridding yourself of the negative voices in your head will change your life forever. Your poor confidence attributes to the negative thoughts within your mind. If you constantly critique yourself, you’ll view yourself negatively, To avoid this, you must replace those negative thoughts with positive ones. This won’t happen overnight but when a negative thought comes to mind, you should immediately create a positive one. You should repeat positive things to yourself until your self-confidence heightens.
Preparedness can give us a feeling of security and confidence. Whether you’re preparing for a quiz, presentation, or work you should make sure you truly understand what’s going on. When studying for a quiz, you should inculcate the information. By inculcating the study material, you are able to memorize what’s written on the paper. It’s best if you then use that knowledge as a basis and read up on background details to have a true grasp on the topic. For presentations, inculcating works too. If you practice your presentation again and again you’ll be less likely to mess up and you’ll be more confident in your material. With an internship or job that’s challenging, you can spend your free time reading everything possible. You don’t need to memorize what you’re reading, but it wouldn’t hurt to have more knowledge on what you’re working on. Through preparation, anything can be done.
The most vital step of gaining undiminishable self-confidence is creating a list. The list should be packed with things you are thankful for and proud of. You can include the names of close friends or relatives, stories, and even simple things like graduating high school. Once you finish your list, the best thing to do is keep it somewhere easily accessible when you need it. If you struggle with your body image, keeping it at the foot of the mirror can help your confidence because you associate the list with positive emotions and that will result at you looking in the mirror positively. Whenever you’re feeling down you can read through the list and remind yourself of all the great things in your life. The list will allow you to be inspired by yourself, forming an unbreakable structure of self-confidence.
Barrie Davenport once said, “Low self confidence isn’t a life sentence. Self-confidence can be learned, practiced, and mastered - just like any other skill. Once you master it, everything in your life will change for the better.” Self-confidence is attainable if you’re willing to spend the time working towards it and once you reach it, no one will be able to strip it from you.
